FROM THE BOOK JACKET:

Geektastic celebrates all things geeky, from Klingons and Jedi Knights to fan fiction, theater geeks, and cosplayers. Whether you’re a former, current, or future geek, or if you just want to get in touch with your inner geek, Geektastic has something for everyone. Get your geek on!

Since I am a huge geek/nerd, I was very drawn to this book. It was my second time reading it, and it seems I’ve become even more of a geek because I understood more of the references. I am not ashamed.

All of the stories were good in their own way. My favourites were probably by Wendy Mass, M.T. Anderson and Barry Lyga. There were other ones that I really liked as well, such as the stories by David Levithan and Garth Nix. I liked them all though, it was tough to pick favourites. I literally almost typed up all of the authors’ names before I realized I had to delete a few.

This book is definitely a must-read for all geeks.

Zombies vs. Unicorns: Various Authors

Zombies vs. Unicorns, Libba Bray, Meg Cabot, Cassandra Clare, Kathleen Duey, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Maureen Johnson, Margo Lanagan, Garth Nix, Naomi Novik, Diana Peterfreund, Carrie Ryan, Scott Westerfeld, Edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier. 415 pages.

FROM THE BOOK JACKET:

Which is better, the zombie or the unicorn?

Justine Larbalestier says that zombies are our own waking deaths. Funny, grim, and terrifying, they cannot be escaped. Unicorns are sparkly and pastel and fart rainbows.

Holly Black says that unicorns are healers, arbiters of justice, and occasionally, majestic man-killers. Zombies drool and shed and probably carry diseases.

Some of today’s finest writers have chosen their side, creating dazzling stories about both creaters. So read on, and decide for yourself:

Are you Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

Before reading this collection of stories, I was neither Team Zombie nor Team Unicorn. I was undecided between the two sides. Zombies are kind of cool and a bit more interesting than unicorns, but they can also be evil and gross. Unicorns are pretty and lovely, but their over-sweetness and majestic-ness can make them boring and a little annoying. I was hoping, after reading these stories, that I would be able to come to a final decision.

I wasn’t totally crazy about the stories, but I think that’s because the majority of them were based around fantasy and historical times. It’s just because of personal preference though, because I mostly enjoy books that are set in reality, with the fantasy element thrown into this world. My favourites, were by Libba Bray, Meg Cabot, Cassandra Clare, Maureen Johnson, Diana Peterfreund and Naomi Novik.

In the end, I still have no idea which team I’m on; I still have the same opinion about both creatures. It was still good to read this collection, though.
